Tour de France organizers (ASO) announced on July 11, 2026, that Stage 9 would be shortened by 30 km due to extreme heat in the Corrèze department. Météo-France had placed the region on red heat-wave alert. The race distance was reduced from 185.5 km to 155.5 km. The announcement came shortly after the finish of Stage 8 in Bergerac. According to franceinfo, this would be the first time in Tour history that a stage has been shortened for this reason.
